CISCE National Basketball Championship for Girls Concludes at St. Joseph School, Sector Alpha-1

The CISCE National Basketball Championship for Girls, being hosted at St. Joseph School, Sector Alpha-1, Greater Noida, witnessed thrilling semi-final and final encounters, showcasing exceptional talent, competitive spirit and sportsmanship among the participating teams.

The semi-final matches played yesterday evening in the Under-14 category were contested between Karnataka and West Bengal and Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Karnataka and Maharashtra defeated their respective opponents to secure their places in the final.

In the Under-17 category, the semi-final matches were played between Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra and Karnataka. Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh emerged victorious and advanced to the final.

In the Under-19 category, the semi-final encounters were played between Tamil Nadu–Puducherry–Andaman & Nicobar and West Bengal, and Bihar and Andhra Pradesh–Telangana. West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh–Telangana displayed excellent basketball skills to book their places in the title clash.

To ensure that the players were not affected by the fatigue of the previous day’s matches, the tournament coordinator and Principal of the school scheduled today’s final matches to commence at around 10:00 a.m.

The first final of the day was played in the Under-19 category between West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh–Telangana. The match witnessed a closely fought contest, with both teams displaying remarkable determination and skill. Eventually, West Bengal defeated Andhra Pradesh–Telangana 25–20 to emerge as CISCE Champions and secure the Gold Medal.

In the Under-14 category, the final was played between Karnataka and Maharashtra. Karnataka’s talented girls emerged victorious, defeating Maharashtra 40–35 to claim the championship title.

The Under-17 final was contested between Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Uttar Pradesh produced an impressive performance and defeated Maharashtra 47–31 to lift the championship trophy.

Best Player Awards

At the conclusion of the championship, the Best Player Awards were announced and presented to outstanding performers in each age category:

– Under-14: Devisha Jha – Karnataka
– Under-17: Kriya Kaushik – Maharashtra
– Under-19: Avni Bansal – West Bengal

The awards were decided by the members of the technical and officiating panel after detailed assessment and evaluation of the players’ performances throughout the championship.

The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of Ms. Poonam Chaturvedi, India’s tallest international female basketball player, as the Chief Guest. Her presence added further grandeur to the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Ms. Poonam Chaturvedi said that criticism and failure may certainly have a negative impact on one’s morale and self-confidence, but one must remain composed and steadfast and continue moving towards the achievement of one’s goals.

On the occasion, Principal Father Gipson Pallaty expressed his happiness over the successful completion of the championship and appreciated the sporting skills and performances of all the participating players. He also expressed his gratitude to every member of the organising committee for their dedicated efforts.

He said that whether it was a Class IV employee of the school, a member of any other category of staff, or the students involved in making the event successful, everyone’s contribution was commendable. He emphasised that the success of the championship was, ultimately, the success of the entire organisation.
